The Design Inspector creates digital drawings, surveys construction sites, inspects new and replaced water main installations, locates water mains and valve boxes, and creates encroachment permits and work orders. This role involves conducting inspections of water line installations to ensure compliance with system specifications, testing valve boxes and flows, and surveying new sites for potential water main placement. The inspector also collects survey-grade GPS data for new water taps and meters, creates drawings to represent this data, and locates existing water mains using various tools and technologies. Responsibilities include creating and revising as-built drawings, numbering plats, incorporating information into existing maps, and preparing blueprints. The position also involves performing related drafting and inspection work, such as preparing permits, attending meetings, and coordinating with supervisors, engineers, contractors, and crewmen. Maintaining accurate job files, updating computer data and maps, and responding to public inquiries regarding department projects are also key duties. The role requires reviewing, preparing, and submitting various records and reports, and interacting with a diverse range of individuals including supervisors, co-workers, customers, engineers, contractors, and the general public.
