About The Position

A Design Estimator II at Pref-Tech supports the Sales team by preparing project estimates in accordance with Preferred Technologies estimation standards. The role is intended for individuals with at least three years of estimating experience or field work in the Security Integration industry. Design Estimator IIs are dedicated to one or more Preferred Partner accounts and estimate projects that are large in scale, scope, and complexity. They also mentor Design Estimator I personnel and develop subject-matter expertise in a Security Integration area to serve as a Trusted Advisor.

The role involves leading and managing assigned sales projects and tasks, coordinating estimation priorities with Sales Team Members and Project Managers, presenting designs to internal teams and end users, and visiting customer sites to assess needs. Some site visits may involve entry into high-security areas and immediate background checks. The position is primarily computer-based, with approximately 70% of work able to be done remotely and the remaining time involving in-person activities. Some travel is required. Standard workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of estimating experience or field work within the Security Integration industry.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to review and interpret blueprints.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience and confidence with public speaking and presenting to audiences.
• Ability to hold others accountable for completing assigned tasks, including individuals in positions of greater responsibility.
• Willingness to take on new challenges and build on current skills.
• Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work efficiently without compromising quality or accuracy.
• Obtain Genetec, Hanwha, DMP/Bosch, and Axis certifications within 6 months of hire; certifications are company provided.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, operate a computer and standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in person and electronically.
• Occasional ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with AutoCAD/Bluebeam (Revu).
• Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 software tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and assume accountability for assigned sales projects and sales tasks.
• Meet regularly with Sales Team Members and Project Managers to determine and prioritize the company’s design estimation needs.
• Present designs to Sales Team Members, Operations, and end users as needed.
• Conduct site visits, with or without Sales Team Members, to determine customer needs.
• Continuously develop sales and design skills and certifications.
• Mentor Design Estimator I personnel.
• Become a subject-matter expert in a Security Integration area of knowledge and act as a Trusted Advisor in that area.
