About The Position

Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future. We are seeking a Design Engineering Specialist. This person will focus on designing, developing, building, and implementing new products, components, or technologies. You will be responsible for helping design and troubleshoot 7L-9L inline-6 diesel engine systems for use in machines, gensets, and external engine sales opportunities.

Requirements

Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Responsibilities

Develop design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of products and components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost.
Guiding the evolution of the technical design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing. Participating in supplier selection and capabilities assessment.
Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.
Constructing and fabricating prototype equipment; overseeing materials selection, process optimization and process yield, as well as reliability testing and failure analysis.
