About The Position

The Design Engineering Manager owns and continuously improves the engineering execution system that enables efficient, high‑quality delivery of sustaining, engineering change, production scale-up and product development work. This role provides global multisite management of engineering work streams, CAD and PDM administration, configuration and master data governance, and design engineering oversight, ensuring engineering execution flows predictably from request through release. This is a leadership role focused on people, process, data and governance. Success is measured by throughput, data integrity, and team effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline. Work experience commensurate with a degree also considered.
  • 10+ years of experience in design engineering, sustaining engineering, project engineering and/or execution of engineering change management work streams.
  • Expert knowledge of SolidWorks CAD as user, mechanical designer and Administrator.
  • Expert knowledge of SolidWorks enterprise PDM as Implementor and Administrator.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical product design.
  • Strong knowledge in ERP databases – JD Edward (JDE) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge with integration of multiple database platforms for master data control and engineering change management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people, define processes, and operate effectively in a multisite, cross‑functional environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Deployment of SolidWorks Manage or other tool that integrates project/process management and PDM systems.
  • Exposure to CAD‑to‑ERP-to-PIM API integration for master data lifecycle management.
  • Naturally curious about engineering ecosystems, digital thread concepts, and scalable workflow design.
  • Experience collaborating closely with electrical engineering teams on electro‑mechanical products.
  • Interest in strengthening ECAD↔MCAD integration and holistic electro‑mechanical product definition.
  • Familiarity with ECAD tools and outputs (e.g., Altium data packages).

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Operations & Workflow Leadership
  • Own intake, triage, prioritization, and flow of engineering workflows including ECR/ECO, VAVE, customs configurations, engineering services support request and related sustaining workstreams across multiple global sites.
  • Establish and maintain clear workflows, decision criteria, and escalation paths.
  • Ensure engineering work is in the appropriate workstream, prioritized, assigned, and actively progressing.
  • Track and manage operational KPIs such as backlog health, OTD, rework, and aging.
  • CAD Standards & Design Engineering Oversight
  • Own SolidWorks standards, templates, libraries, and best practices
  • Provide design engineering oversight and technical gatekeeping.
  • Review and approve drawings and design outputs as required by process.
  • PDM Administration & Engineering Systems Ownership
  • Serve as owner and administrator for multiple global sites using SolidWorks CAD and PDM vault.
  • Own system configuration for access, permissions, lifecycle states, and workflow routing.
  • Design, implement, and evolve workflows supporting sustaining, engineering change, and NPI activities.
  • Partner with IT and other stakeholders on system stability, upgrades, and adoption.
  • Ensure PDM is a trusted system of record for engineering, product development data and associated files.
  • Master Data & Configuration Management
  • Own configuration management rules and governance across CAD, PDM, PIM, Website and ERP data sources. Ensure single source of truth and digital thread for product definition.
  • Ensure alignment and integrity of CAD models, drawings, bills of material, and item master data.
  • Define release criteria, change rules, approval requirements, and lifecycle transitions.
  • Manage inactive, obsolescence, and end‑of‑life transitions.
  • Protect downstream manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial operations from data errors.
  • People Leadership & Development
  • Lead and develop Design Engineering resources that will work across a variety of sustaining engineering projects, and new product development scale-up projects.
  • Manage appropriate workload to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Coach team members toward increased capability, cross-training, tool utilization, and effectiveness.
  • Build a sustainable operating model built on standard work, process governance, and accountability.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product Assurance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Commercial teams.
  • Support VAVE, lifecycle optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for engineering systems, data, and workflow topics.
