About The Position

Performance Contracting Group (PCG) is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for its PCI Washington, DC 566 operations, based in Ashburn, Virginia. The role supports design and operations teams by developing and coordinating BIM models and project deliverables using Revit and related software. The Design Engineer participates in project kickoff, BIM coordination and design meetings, and works with project teams, clients, and BIM/VDC service providers to support coordinated construction workflows.

The position includes modeling a range of specialty scopes to required levels of development, coordinating models with point cloud files and project documents, performing quality and compliance checks, identifying and escalating discrepancies, and using Navisworks Manage for clash detection and resolution. The Design Engineer also maintains project-specific content and standards, prepares files for field use, supports installation drawings and details, and contributes to training and continuous improvement in BIM/VDC practices. Project-site visits may be required.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of BIM (Revit)/VDC modeling and coordination experience.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks Manage, and BIM 360 Design/Glue.
• A portfolio demonstrating work in Revit and Revit Family Editor.
• Experience with Bluebeam PDF Software.
• Ability to understand design and document coordination.
• Innovative and creatively minded, with an interest in improving processes, procedures, and construction techniques to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.
• Ability to take responsibility for the outcomes and results of assigned projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative.
• Ability to work in a team and for periods independently or in isolated or unsupervised environments.
• Project management skills.
• Ability to communicate the benefits of BIM/VDC internally and externally.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as Construction Management, Construction Science, Architecture, or an engineering field; preferred. A two-year technical degree or two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Experience with cleanroom, non-structural metal framing, drywall, façade systems, and ceiling systems.
• Working knowledge of Dynamo, Revit API, and SketchUp.

Responsibilities

• Attend project kickoff meetings with design and/or operations staff to confirm the Level of Development, scope, project details, and contract requirements before modeling begins.
• Create 3D models using Revit.
• Participate in BIM coordination and design meetings.
• Develop and model requested scopes, including interior and exterior walls and framing, ceiling and soffit framing, acoustical ceilings, specialty panels, raised access floors, clean room walls and ceilings, Unistrut, and no-fly zones, to the required Level of Development.
• Coordinate models with point cloud files and ensure models are spatially coordinated.
• Escalate issues to the BIM Coordinator and Design or Operations Team.
• Identify model and document inconsistencies and raise them with the BIM Coordinator and Design/Operations Team to determine appropriate action.
• Ensure model elements within PCI’s scope are fully coordinated.
• Perform BIM compliance checks and quality-control models against project documents for discrepancies.
• Use Navisworks Manage to run clash detection and identify potential issues, and use Navisworks to resolve PCI clashes.
• Attend staff training to strengthen knowledge and expertise of standardized software.
• Create and maintain project-specific content consistent with instructions, guidelines, in-house standards, and project BIM standards.
• Work with the Design and Operations Team to implement BIM/VDC best practices.
• Coordinate with BIM/VDC service providers and clients.
• Provide design support, including processing installation drawings, incorporating comments, and producing details and layout files.
• Clean, prepare, and organize CAD/Navisworks files for field use.
• Complete special projects as assigned.
• Visit project sites and other important areas as required.
