Design Engineer

Minerva•New York, NY
•$209,000 - $265,000•Onsite

About The Position

Minerva is hiring a senior individual-contributor Design Engineer on its product engineering team. The role owns product experience quality from concept through shipped software, using code as the design medium rather than serving as a handoff between design and engineering. The engineer will create interfaces that make complex consumer data understandable and trustworthy for marketers, helping them evaluate AI-generated segments, models, and measurement and decide whether to put them into market. The role includes designing and building product surfaces, prototyping interactive experiences, taking the strongest versions into production, making decisions about motion and reusable components, and owning the design system. The engineer remains accountable for the experience after launch. Minerva builds with TypeScript, React, TanStack Start, Base UI, Tailwind, and Motion where appropriate. Work is in person at the company's Williamsburg, Brooklyn office. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to New York City and be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is considered case by case. The first-90-day goal is to ship a major product surface end to end. Within six months, the engineer is expected to own several major product surfaces and have the design system serving as the default foundation for product engineering. Compensation is $209,000–$265,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus meaningful equity.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated taste in shipped work, including the ability to create clarity, make data engaging, or communicate a product's value with restraint.
  • Ability to defend design decisions using first principles grounded in the needs of product users.
  • Experience designing and shipping production interfaces directly; the posting does not require a specific number of years or job title.
  • Ability to argue through decisions collaboratively with colleagues and accept the stronger argument.
  • Located in or willing to relocate to New York City.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is considered case by case.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build interfaces that make data about hundreds of millions of consumers legible to marketers.
  • Determine how segments, models, and measurement are displayed and explained so marketers can trust the output and use it to make decisions.
  • Prototype interactive experiences in code, including motion, keyboard flows, and representations of agent activity, then take the strongest version to production.
  • Decide when animation is appropriate and whether a component should be a one-off or a reusable primitive.
  • Build and maintain the design system, components, and patterns used by product engineering.
  • Own product surfaces after launch and remain accountable for their quality in customers' hands.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity; equity is included with every full-time role.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Monthly fitness stipend.
  • Annual company offsite.
