About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking a Design Engineer with expertise in at least one area of chip design and silicon validation and general knowledge across the broader field. The role applies that expertise throughout the IC design process, including troubleshooting complex problems and proactively addressing issues in the engineer’s own and adjacent areas. The position involves working with internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams, and may include leading functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, or complexity. The role is based in Santa Clara, California, and requires travel 20% of the time.

Requirements

Deep expertise in at least one area of chip design or silicon validation, with general sound knowledge of overall chip design and silicon validation.
Experience with multiple tape-outs.

Responsibilities

Apply expertise to proactively address issues in the engineer’s own and adjacent areas during a specific design phase.
Implement concepts to troubleshoot complex problems across steps of the IC design process without supervision in the area of expertise.
Represent the organization through effective technical verbal and written communication, with limited supervision.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors.
Follow complex program schedules, budgets, and milestones with limited supervision.
Participate in cross-functional discussions to resolve interdisciplinary technical issues.
Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
Lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, or complexity, as needed.
Lead others in solving complex problems, using analytical judgment to identify innovative solutions.
Communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view.
