About The Position

Workforce Solutions is partnering with a family-owned manufacturing company in Madison, WI, to find a Design Engineer/Product Designer. This role involves working on real-world projects from concept through production, with designs directly translating into finished products for retail environments. The ideal candidate is a practical, creative designer capable of taking ideas from concept to production-ready execution with minimal oversight. This position offers ownership of the full design lifecycle, from initial concept through modeling, documentation, and production handoff. It is suited for someone who enjoys seeing their work materialize and thrives in a collaborative, hands-on setting.

Requirements

Proficiency in AutoCAD required
Ability to produce clear, accurate technical drawings and BOMs
Self-starter who can manage projects independently
Strong organizational and file management skills
Solid communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, design, or fabrication environment preferred
Recent technical graduates with strong portfolios are encouraged to apply, as well as candidates with hands-on fabrication or shop experience.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Blender or other 3D modeling tools is a plus
ERP system experience (such as Odoo) is a plus

Responsibilities

Translate customer needs into design concepts, from initial sketches to detailed models
Create 3D models, technical drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for production
Manage design projects including file organization, version control, and documentation
Collaborate with production teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
Support process improvements and adoption of new tools
Contribute ideas to improve efficiency and team workflows
