About The Position

The Design Engineer role, reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering and working closely with Civil and Electrical Engineering partners, supports the site evaluation, layout design, and development of utility‑scale solar PV and Storage projects across Origis Energy’s portfolio. This position supports early through mid‑stage project development, focusing on translating civil site constraints into constructible, efficient electrical layouts at a conceptual and preliminary level. Duties may also extend to include miscellaneous support during 30/60/90/IFC design and later construction and O&M if and when the development of internal exhibits or the review of processing of CAD drawings is needed. This position may be filled as Design Engineer I or Design Engineer II based on candidate experience and demonstrated capability. Requirements

  • 1-4 years of applicable electrical or civil plan development experience
  • 4-8 years of AutoCAD experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience supporting site layout, design, or engineering for utility‑scale infrastructure, renewable energy, or related projects.
  • Working knowledge of site constraints, constructability considerations, and multi‑discipline coordination.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote).
  • Experience supporting utility‑scale solar PV and Storage projects.
  • Familiarity with PV plant layout tools (e.g., PVcase, PV Farm, PlantPredict).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support project development through desktop site reviews, site visits, and review of third‑party reports including ALTA surveys, environmental studies, geotechnical reports, and floodplain documentation.
  • Identify and interpret site constraints such as wetlands and waterways, flood zones, topography, setbacks, easements, underground utilities, pipelines, and other environmental or jurisdictional limitations.
  • Translate due diligence findings into clearly defined developable areas and design assumptions.
  • Develop and maintain conceptual and preliminary site layouts for utility‑scale solar PV Storage projects using AutoCAD and related tools.
  • Incorporate civil constraints, access requirements, and constructability considerations into array layouts, equipment placement, and infrastructure corridors.
  • Support layout iterations for alternative site configurations, technology options, or development scenarios as projects mature.
  • Support layout‑level electrical system configuration, including: Inverter and power block placement, DC and MV collection routing corridors, Coordination of trenching, access roads, and grading interfaces.
  • Develop preliminary electrical single line diagrams (SLDs) to support needs of Origination, Development and EPC teams.
  • Apply value‑engineering principles to balance civil constraints, electrical infrastructure, constructability, and project economics.
  • Coordinate with internal technical team and external consultants to align on layout assumptions and tradeoffs.
  • Serve as a technical partner to Development, Origination, and Engineering teams on layout‑related questions.
  • Support EPC RFP development by preparing layout exhibits and responding to technical questions.
  • Assist with Independent Engineer and lender technical due diligence by providing clarifications, assumptions, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with EPCs during 30/60/90% design reviews to confirm alignment with development intent and site constraints.
  • Provide technical support during early construction and execution phases as needed, including review of selected EPC design deliverables for alignment with development assumptions.
  • Support internal documentation, reporting, and presentations related to site design and feasibility.
