About The Position

Luxury Presence is seeking a Design Engineer to join their remote-first team. This role is for a builder who thinks in systems, ships production code, and is passionate about user experience. The Design Engineer will own the bridge between design intent and shipped experience, working alongside an existing design engineer to build and evolve the design system in code, improve UI quality, and create tooling to accelerate the design and engineering organizations. This position reports into the Design team, emphasizing the importance of UI quality and design system integrity. The role involves owning the design system across Figma and code, ensuring UI quality across the product (focusing on details like transitions, micro-interactions, and accessibility), developing tooling and workflows for design and engineering collaboration, and shipping production-ready code. The ideal candidate will partner closely with product designers and frontend/full-stack engineers, establishing patterns, reviewing UI, and raising the standard for code quality.

Requirements

  • 6+ years building production-ready frontend code in complex, component-driven applications.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, and modern CSS (Tailwind).
  • Strong opinions about component architecture, performance, and maintainability.
  • A portfolio or body of work demonstrating both technical depth and design sensibility.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining design systems in production (not just in Figma).
  • Technical fluency with AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development tools.
  • Familiarity with MCPs and how tools like Figma, Figma Console, and Notion connect into AI-assisted workflows.
  • Ability to operate with high ownership and low ego.
  • Ability to mentor engineers on UI craft, take direction from product designers, and pair with teammates.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with tools like Base UI, Storybook, and Figma Code Connect.
  • Exposure to microfrontend architectures, Vite, and composition APIs.
  • A track record of building internal tools, developer experience improvements, or workflow automation that made teams more effective.
  • Experience as a dabbler and experimenter with new AI tools, pushing their limits, and sharing learnings.

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrity of the design system across Figma and code, including React components, tokens, and patterns.
  • Ensure the design system library in Figma stays in sync with production.
  • Make design-level tweaks as the system evolves and partner with product designers to evolve the system.
  • Close the gap between design specs and production reality.
  • Ensure the highest UI quality across the product, focusing on details like transitions, micro-interactions, responsive behavior, loading states, edge cases, and accessibility.
  • Build tools and processes to improve how design and engineering teams collaborate, prototype, and ship.
  • Develop internal tooling, prototyping workflows, component documentation, and dev environment improvements.
  • Ship production-ready code for components, UI improvements, and internal tooling.
