The Sustaining Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving existing products throughout their lifecycle. This role focuses on design modifications, quality improvements, cost optimization, and supporting manufacturing processes to ensure product reliability and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related Engineering subject area.
  • Ideally 3+ years of experience in sustaining engineering, product support, or related roles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with PLM systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heat transfer, fluid flow, or electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing designs and implement changes to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical support for production issues, field failures, and customer escalations.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, R&D) to resolve product issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design-related problems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test protocols, and change orders.
  • Support regulatory compliance and coordinate third-party testing as needed.
  • Use CAD tools and design analysis techniques (DFMEA, CFD, FEA) to validate design changes
