About The Position

At Northrop Grumman, we are seeking a Civil Design Engineer to support the design, modeling, and integration efforts for Civil/Structural elements for Sentinel Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities. This role is crucial for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities. The selected candidate will act as a subject matter expert, supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems, including structural steel design drawings, concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings. This position requires reviewing structural design/selection/engineering for modularized fabrication, interpreting and verifying industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables, and participating in project design/model reviews. The role also involves reviewing subcontractors' design product quality and accuracy, supporting the delivery of various technical data packages, and developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet stringent requirements.

Requirements

  • Design Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 2 years’ experience; 0 years’ experience with a Master’s degree
  • Principal Design Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 5 years’ experience; 3 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 1 year’ experience with a PhD.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application with the most recent investigation completed in the last 5 years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance as a condition of continued employment.
  • Experience with site development, grading, utilities, stormwater management, operations and property description.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost estimation of site civil improvements.
  • Expertise in project design/model reviews.
  • Experience reviewing design products, data packages, issue-for-construction packages, and/or as-built data and models for quality/accuracy by reviewing civil designs and validating that current standards are applied and integrated into the design solution.
  • Experience with structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.
  • Civil/Structural design experience on MILCON or major infrastructure/building projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and UFGS specifications.
  • Knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), International Building Code (IBC) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities.
  • Subject matter expert supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems, including structural steel design drawings, concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.
  • Review structural design/selection/engineering for modularized fabrication.
  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
  • Participate in project design/model reviews.
  • Review subcontractors design product quality/accuracy by reviewing civil/structural designs and validating that current standards are applied and integrated into the design solution.
  • Support the delivery of Civil/Structural facility design Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.
  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
  • Developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.
