About The Position

Apex Companies, a rapidly growing firm in the AEC industry, is seeking a Design Engineer III - Water Resources to join their team at their headquarters in Fullerton, California. The ideal candidate will apply broad knowledge of principles and practices in water resources engineering, independently evaluate and select techniques, and potentially act in a responsible charge of projects. They will also function on multidisciplinary teams, manage scopes, schedules, and budgets, and prepare complete project documents. The role involves designing systems, conducting investigations, analyzing data, assigning tasks to staff, and assisting with proposals. Specific responsibilities include assisting project management, managing other engineering staff, meeting with clients, preparing project concepts through final design plans and bid packages, solving design problems, preparing engineering reports for various civil site improvements and water/wastewater facilities, supporting technical writing, preparing project drawings in AutoCAD Civil3D, performing calculations, serving on project teams under supervision, completing assignments on time and within budget, interacting with clients and stakeholders, and interacting with multi-discipline and multi-office teams.

Requirements

  • 4+ Years of Experience in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or other Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years’ Architect-Engineering (AE) industry experience.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil Engineering, or 8+ years of AE experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, etc.).
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related geospatial software
  • Proficient in PDF software, such as Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Abilities to grasp and become proficient in new software and technologies
  • Ability to pay attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic.
  • Good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Management
  • Manage workload of other engineering staff
  • Meet with clients regarding work and performance of team, and regarding current and future work
  • Prepare project concepts through final design plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) bid packages
  • Solve design problems using engineering calculations and following general design standards
  • Prepare complete engineering reports related to civil site improvements, storm drainage, water distribution and transmission systems, pumping systems, pipelines, utilities, streets and roadways, bikeways, sanitary sewer collection systems, and water and wastewater facilities
  • Prepare and/or support reports and technical writing related to engineering projects, scopes of work, proposals, grants and other initiatives.
  • Prepare project drawings/designs in AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D to establish horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, and perform earthwork calculations
  • Serve on project teams under the supervision of CWE Project Managers
  • Complete assignments on time and within budget and achieve firm’s quality objectives
  • Interact with public and private clients and stakeholders
  • Interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams
