About The Position

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer II to provide conceptual design for specific projects and perform calculations, drawings, and specifications relevant to HVAC, plumbing, or other systems. This role involves performing more complex calculations for projects such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, and hydraulic calculations. The Design Engineer II will prepare preliminary redline design layouts for estimating and may be responsible for a single phase of a project. This position also provides guidance to less experienced engineers and is responsible for code compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, including as Excel
