About The Position

The Design Drafter prepares and electronically stores complex assembly drawings, models, sub-assembly drawings, and details to satisfy design requirements for mechanical or electrical systems. The role uses Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) and related software applications to ensure compliance with and consistency to professional standards. The position is onsite in Batavia, Illinois. Fermilab is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Requirements

High school diploma or technical certificate and 4 or more years of related work experience.
Experience with NX and Teamcenter is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and web-based tools.
Understanding of ASME Y14.5 and ability to apply it accurately.
Knowledge of welding symbols and ability to apply them accurately.
Strong verbal and communication skills.
Organized and technically knowledgeable.
Ability to adjust work focus as priorities change.
Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Prepare and create schematics, layouts, and other related documents.
Create moderately complex 3D models and perform some design calculations.
Provide information to assist with procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and other aspects of the completed design.
Perform field investigations to assist in resolving design issues.
Interact with vendors, requestors, fabricators, and machine shops.
Maintain and update related files and databases, and electronically store drawing archives.
Independently update existing CAD models and related drawings.
Assist engineers with engineering analysis using model measurement tools.
