About The Position

Design and prepare engineering drawings for assigned projects, including engineering calculations using AutoCAD and Inventor. The role develops designs and drawings for specific equipment and projects, selects components, and may direct other drafters working on assigned projects. It includes detail, assembly, and layout drawing work; preparing or overseeing specifications and bills of material when needed; and designing new, special, or modified products to meet established requirements. Assignments must be completed according to scheduled engineering release dates. The position involves extensive computer work in an office setting and occasional exposure to manufacturing shop environments. Work may also involve heavy industrial settings, quarry or pit locations, and construction sites. The employee may need to climb on equipment to inspect it and gather data. Requirements

Experience in heavy equipment and/or structural design is preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD 2-D and Inventor 3-D CAD software, or similar software such as SolidWorks or Pro-E, is preferred.
Ability to operate the office equipment and tools needed to perform drafting functions, including CAD and Inventor systems.
Ability to work well with others and demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to perform duties in heavy industrial settings, quarry or pit locations, and construction sites with associated air pollutants and noise.
Ability to climb on equipment to inspect it and gather data.

Nice To Haves

Two-year degree in Mechanical Drafting/Design Technology.
Two or more years of experience in heavy equipment and/or structural design, and AutoCAD 2-D and Inventor 3-D CAD software experience (or similar software such as SolidWorks or Pro-E).

Responsibilities

Make fundamental calculations to select appropriate and economical components for assigned equipment or projects.
Direct the efforts of any draftsman assigned to work on specific equipment or projects.
Prepare detail, assembly, general, and overall layout drawings.
Write and release, or supervise the writing and release of, specifications and bills of material when required.
Design new or special products, developments, and product-line modifications according to established specifications and requirements.
Complete assignments on time according to scheduled Engineering release dates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Prepare engineering drawings and make engineering calculations using AutoCAD and Inventor as instructed.
Provide accurate calculations of dimensions, weight limitations, and required materials.
Develop detailed designs with CAD software, identify operational issues, and redesign products to improve functionality.
Ensure final designs comply with regulations and prepare references to illustrate workflow.
