CAD Drafter – Electrical Harness Design

Momentus Space•San Jose, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Momentus is seeking a CAD Drafter within its Systems Engineering Harness Design Group to create and revise electrical harness designs and documentation. The role focuses on translating engineering information—including pinouts, port-to-port connectivity, wire specifications, connector definitions, and engineering notes—into clear, controlled, production-ready harness documentation and work instructions suitable for release through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process. The drafter will prepare complete documentation packages for manufacturing, procurement, fabrication, inspection, and assembly. This includes harness drawings, wiring documentation, bills of materials, and work instructions, with the goal of enabling in-house technicians or external vendors to build harnesses accurately without additional clarification from engineering. The role also supports backlog cleanup and standardization of existing harness drawings for ISO and quality audits, and coordinates with engineers to resolve unclear information and address ECO rejections. This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. The role requires access to export-controlled materials and therefore requires U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3).

Requirements

  • Background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, electrical drafting, technical documentation, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of electrical harnesses and wiring, including connectors, pinouts, power, communications, wire gauge, shielding, and signal routing.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to turn incomplete or engineering-oriented source information into clean, production-ready documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Altium.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Associate degree in CAD, bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), due to export-controlled access requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Familiarity with engineering change control and ECO processes.
  • Experience with PLM or document-control systems such as Duro.
  • Familiarity with ISO-controlled engineering documentation or quality-management environments.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks and Lucid.
  • Previous experience working on DoD and other U.S. government development and deployment programs.
  • Ability to hold and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Convert raw pinout, connector, and port-to-port definitions into clear, standardized electrical harness documentation.
  • Create and maintain harness drawings, wiring documentation, tables, and manufacturing or work instructions.
  • Clean up and standardize existing engineering harness drawings in preparation for ISO and quality audits.
  • Prepare documentation packages for upload and release in Duro through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
  • Provide accurate, complete, revision-controlled source material to support ECO documentation.
  • Work with engineers to resolve missing, inconsistent, or unclear harness information.
  • Ensure documentation is clear and usable for manufacturing, technicians, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Maintain consistent documentation standards across harnesses and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with engineers to address ECO rejections and update affected drawings, BOMs, work instructions, or supporting documentation.
  • Create complete, production-ready harness build documentation in Altium or other approved formats, such as wiring diagrams or block diagrams.
  • Translate engineering definitions and design inputs into unambiguous harness drawings and work instructions.
  • Create and maintain harness BOMs covering required components such as connectors, contacts, wire, terminals, backshells, labels, and sleeving.
  • Ensure harness packages include all information needed for procurement, fabrication, inspection, and assembly.
