CAD Drafter – Electrical Harness Design

Momentus Space LLC•San Jose, CA
•$95,000 - $120,000•Onsite

About The Position

Momentus is seeking a CAD Drafter – Electrical Harness Design within its Systems Engineering Harness Design Group to create and revise electrical harness designs and documentation. The role converts engineering inputs—including pinout definitions, port-to-port connectivity, wire specifications, connector definitions, and engineering notes—into clear, controlled, production-ready harness documentation and work instructions suitable for release through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process. The drafter will produce complete documentation packages that enable in-house technicians or external harness manufacturers to build harnesses accurately without additional clarification from engineering. This includes harness drawings, wiring documentation, bills of materials, manufacturing and work instructions, and supporting information for procurement, fabrication, inspection, and assembly. The role also involves standardizing existing harness documentation for ISO and quality audits, maintaining revision-controlled materials, and coordinating with engineers to resolve incomplete or inconsistent information and address ECO rejections. This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. Access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services requires U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). The annual base salary range is $95,000–$120,000. The compensation package also includes bonus and equity. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; short- and long-term disability and life insurance; flexible PTO; 11 paid holidays; sick time; and paid parental leave.

Requirements

  • Background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, electrical drafting, technical documentation, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of electrical harnesses and wiring, including connectors, pinouts, power, communications, wire gauge, shielding, and signal routing.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to turn incomplete or engineering-oriented source information into clean, production-ready documentation.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Altium.
  • Associate degree in CAD or a bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), due to the position's access to export-controlled items and information.

  • Previous experience on DoD and other U.S. government development and deployment programs.
  • Ability to hold and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Convert raw pinout, connector, and port-to-port definitions into clear, standardized electrical harness documentation.
  • Create and maintain harness drawings, wiring documentation, tables, and manufacturing and work instructions.
  • Clean up and standardize existing harness drawing backlogs in preparation for ISO and quality audits.
  • Prepare documentation packages for upload and release in Duro through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
  • Provide accurate, complete, revision-controlled source material to support ECO documentation.
  • Work with engineers to resolve missing, inconsistent, or unclear harness information.
  • Ensure documentation is clear and usable for manufacturing, technicians, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Maintain consistent documentation standards across harnesses and assemblies.
  • Address ECO rejections by coordinating updates to affected drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, and supporting documentation.
  • Create complete, production-ready harness build documentation in Altium or other approved formats, such as wiring diagrams or block diagrams.
  • Translate engineering definitions—including pinouts, port-to-port connectivity, connector definitions, wire requirements, and other design inputs—into clear harness drawings and work instructions.
  • Create and maintain harness bills of materials as part of the work instructions, covering components such as connectors, contacts, wire, terminals, backshells, labels, and sleeving.
  • Own the completeness of harness documentation packages, ensuring they contain the information necessary for procurement, fabrication, inspection, and assembly.
