About The Position

The Design Applications Specialist is responsible for creating detailed carpet installation and seaming plans using AutoCAD or similar software. This role involves calculating material quantities, developing custom layouts, and generating estimating quote reports. The specialist will coordinate project changes with customers and internal departments, process digital simulations, and support the simulation coordinator and design team on special projects. They will also maintain databases for carpet patterns and simulations, and assist sales staff and customers with design-related inquiries.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation methods.
• Knowledge of carpet manufacturing and design processes.
• Experience with Floor Covering Installation Procedures.
• Demonstrated ability in mathematics, specifically fractions and measurements.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Photoshop, or Refit software.
• Demonstrated ability to apply geometric concepts needed to scale and measure plans.
• Technical skills include graphic and electronic medium experience.
• Previous color matching skills required.
• Must be highly organized and a self-starter.
• Previous project management skills required.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design, graphic design, or a similar field preferred.
• Demonstrated project estimating experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed carpet installation/seaming plans using AutoCAD or similar software, complete with carpet images and floor plan comprehension.
• Calculate material quantities required for projects based on application designs.
• Develop initial project ideas and gather key information, discussing requirements with the sales force or clients.
• Create custom layouts, including borders and rugs, in various installation methods.
• Accurately total material quantities for standard and custom patterns, listing all material information in an estimating quote report.
• Provide customers and field sales personnel with electronic or printed color AutoCAD carpet installation/seaming plans.
• Coordinate project changes, additions, or developments by revising and distributing updated reports, plans, and layouts.
• Operate effectively with other departments (Custom Design, Custom Samples, Production, Sales, Customer, Manufacturing) to ensure successful project completion.
• Process digital and printed simulations from the custom development department.
• Be available to speak with sales staff and customers regarding simulations, Room Scenes, and Floor Plan Renderings.
• Maintain colors in the sim yarn database.
• Maintain and organize custom and standard patterns in the sim database.
• Support the simulation coordinator and design team on special simulation projects.
