About The Position

Our site in Bedford, MA is seeking a Design and Process Engineering Co-Op to join our team for the Spring 2027 season. This assignment is intended to be 6 months in duration. In this role, you will support both the design and process engineering activities of our R&D group for new thin film coating applications. You will gain hands-on experience developing equipment and tooling, improving manufacturing and engineering processes, maintaining technical documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support innovative coating solutions.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks design and drafting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field
  • Expected graduation in 2027 or 2028
  • Must be a currently enrolled student
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in January through June
  • Must be familiar with the university’s requirements to participate in a co-op program

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks while adhering to departmental drafting and documentation standards
  • Partner with process engineers and subject matter experts to develop equipment, tooling, and process solutions that address customer and manufacturing needs
  • Assist with the development, revision, and maintenance of process documentation, including work instructions, operating procedures, process flows, and manufacturing records
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of mechanical design improvements
  • Coordinate with external suppliers and internal resources to procure components and support the timely introduction of new parts and assemblies
  • Support hands-on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of prototypes, fixtures, and equipment improvements
