Dermatologic Technician

About The Position

Contributes to patient care by assisting in high level, complex Mohs surgery and reconstructive repairs, in collaboration with other departments including oculoplastic, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery. Enrolled in department Mohs specialty training program to successfully obtain competencies and clinical skills necessary to independently support Mohs surgeons. Maintains proper sterile environment and handling of various surgical instruments, including suction. Performs complex suture removals, bandage changes, and wound care follow-up according to provider requests. Demonstrates patient care excellence by providing hands-on, compassionate patient support throughout surgery and discharge, including assisting the physician with providing discharge instructions to the patient.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, EMT, surgical technologist or dermatologic technician in a surgical work area is preferred.
  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technician or EMT education program is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile technique, and surgical instruments preferred.
  • Demonstrate a high level of teamwork and collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care.
  • Certification is preferred for those who have completed the CNA, MA, ST, or EMT programs.
