About The Position

The Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR) is the state’s leading workforce development agency. It consists of divisions that offer workforce related services, job placement and training, services for people with disabilities, investigation of claims of discrimination, unemployment insurance benefits, labor market data and more. Many of these services are provided through EmployNV Career and Business Hubs and in cooperation with its community partners. The Deputy Staff Attorney represents the Employment Security Division (ESD) and advises the Administrator on legal matters pertaining to workforce and Unemployment Insurance issues.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Membership in the State Bar of Nevada.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute timelines without the need for supervision or reminders.

• Adept at identifying, developing, and analyzing findings and conclusions.
• Able to prepare and defend their position regarding the same.

Responsibilities

• Prepare briefs and other responsive pleadings for Petitions for Judicial Review to the district courts throughout Nevada and the Nevada Supreme Court.
• Attend court hearings (usually remotely).
• Review Public Records Requests and subpoenas for compliance.
• Draft regulations on behalf of the Division.
• Advise the Administrator on legal issues pertaining to the Division.
• Perform other job-related duties and may be required to develop additional specific job-related knowledge and skills.
