About The Position

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office Family Support Division (FSD) seeks an enthusiastic, public service-focused attorney. Under an intergovernmental agreement, FSD represents the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services Division of Child Support in superior court. The division represents the State when it has a financial interest because public assistance has been paid, or when a parent or caregiver has requested child support services. Services are provided regardless of need. FSD’s practice areas include establishing legal parentage and child support obligations, modifying and enforcing child support orders, and appearing in other family law matters in which the State has a financial interest. Attorneys may work across one or more practice areas, with an emphasis on equity and social justice. The division has seven attorneys and approximately 22 legal support professionals. The position is based in Kent; FSD currently has offices in Kent and Seattle and plans to consolidate to a primary Kent office during 2027. The position offers a hybrid schedule, subject to business needs and change. Attorneys generally may telecommute up to three days one week and two days the next, with in-office work required on Wednesdays. New PAO employees may be required to work in the office three days each week for six months. In-office employees are expected to be present and available throughout the workday unless taking approved leave. Remote employees must maintain an approved home workspace and reliable internet and remain available during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in Washington State within a reasonable distance of their King County worksite. A County-issued laptop is provided. FSD provides training opportunities, including an annual CLE conference at which attorneys may attend and present. The office expects employees to participate in equity work and trainings and to apply race, equity, and social justice principles in their work.
