About The Position

AECOM's California Natural Resources team has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Project Manager/Project Manager. This hybrid role will be based in our San Diego office to support our Environment business line with large-scale, well-established contracts and programs for a variety of clients (e.g., public and private sector, utilities, renewables). The Deputy Project Manager/Project Manager will be responsible for providing financial management and administrative support to a highly successful team of natural resource specialists and project managers working on some of the most important utility and infrastructure projects in Southern California and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focusing on financial management and administrative support.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Basic knowledge of project management processes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with a strong understanding of Excel functions.
  • Basic knowledge of finance and accounting.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal communication skills with hospitality mindset, as this role requires customer-oriented support services.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting technical project managers and project controls staff by: Learning and staying current on AECOM Project Management systems to support technical staff on Environmental Projects and Programs.
  • Maintaining the AECOM project financial system (uploading change orders, opening and closing projects, developing financial schedules and monthly Estimate at Complete workbooks).
  • Setting up and administering project cost control, including monitoring, collecting and analyzing actual costs, commitments, and accruals.
  • Identifying cost trends and analyzing key performance indicators to support technical project managers in managing project budgets effectively.
  • Developing reports for clients, such as progress and financial reports.
  • Evaluating project performance, including progress against project schedule and budget, and identifying areas of concern.
  • Compiling monthly invoices and following up with client accounts payable for approval and payment.
  • Assisting in the identification of change conditions and the development of Change Order request documents and estimates.
  • Managing subcontractor’s involvement in the projects (e.g., coordinating contracts, budgets, commitments, expenditures, and invoices).
  • Performing ad-hoc analysis as required by the technical project manager or regional financial leadership.
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules.
