About The Position

The Deputy Engineering Manager (Technical) serves as the senior strategic technical authority supporting DARPA’s enterprise modernization, Zero Trust, cloud transformation, advanced networking, and emerging technology initiatives. This role provides technical vision, architectural leadership, and engineering governance across enterprise systems and mission-focused technology programs. The Deputy Engineering Manager (Technical) is responsible for defining long-term technical strategy, establishing enterprise engineering standards, guiding solution architecture decisions, and leading technical innovation efforts across multi-cloud, hybrid, and classified environments. The position partners closely with DARPA leadership, program stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to ensure technical solutions align with mission objectives, security requirements, and future-state enterprise capabilities. This role functions as the senior technical advisor for engineering strategy and modernization initiatives while providing oversight and mentorship to senior architects and engineering personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related technical field from an accredited university.
  • 12+ years of full-time relevant professional experience
  • IAT/IAM Level II or III Certification.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of current applicable experience supporting DoD or IC programs.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, leading, and governing enterprise engineering and architecture initiatives.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms, enterprise infrastructure, Zero Trust architectures, DevSecOps, networking, virtualization, containers, and hybrid environments.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a senior technical leader or chief architect within complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience developing enterprise technical strategies, modernization roadmaps, and architectural governance models.
  • Strong familiarity with DoD and federal architecture frameworks, including DODAF/UAF, NIST, and Zero Trust guidance.
  • Experience briefing senior government leadership and providing strategic technical recommendations.
  • Industry certifications related to cloud architecture, cybersecurity, or enterprise architecture preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for enterprise engineering, cloud modernization, Zero Trust, and advanced infrastructure initiatives.
  • Define and maintain strategic engineering roadmaps, reference architectures, and modernization strategies supporting DARPA mission objectives.
  • Lead development of secure, scalable architectures spanning AWS, Azure, on-premises, and classified environments, including IL2–IL6+ and air-gapped systems.
  • Establish engineering standards, architectural governance processes, and technical best practices across enterprise initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design and governance of Service-Oriented Architectures, Web-Oriented Architectures, cloud-native platforms, and hybrid infrastructure solutions.
  • Guide evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, automation capabilities, AI-enabled solutions, and advanced engineering practices.
  • Review and approve enterprise solution designs to ensure scalability, interoperability, resiliency, and compliance with mission requirements.
  • Ensure architectural alignment with NIST, DoD, IC, and Zero Trust frameworks and security requirements.
  • Provide senior-level technical advisory support to DARPA leadership, program offices, and cross-directorate stakeholders.
  • Lead technical strategy discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering decision-making forums.
  • Mentor senior engineers, architects, and technical teams while fostering innovation and engineering excellence.
  • Support Agency efforts to establish, document, mature, and govern enterprise engineering capabilities and processes.
  • Conduct assessments of enterprise architectures, technology portfolios, and modernization initiatives to identify gaps, risks, and strategic improvement opportunities.
  • Develop reusable architectural patterns and engineering frameworks for cloud integration, hybrid connectivity, automation, and secure workload migration.
  • Produce and review high-fidelity technical diagrams, engineering documentation, and executive briefings.
  • Collaborate with program management and operational leadership to align technical strategy with mission priorities and execution objectives.
  • Actively seek to resolve concerns while adhering to company policy and standards of behavior.
