About The Position

Under the supervision of the Emergency Management Coordinator, provides support in all facets of emergency management office operations including developing and refining emergency management plans, developing exercises, training, and interacting with public safety officials and community leaders across all relevant organizations in the community. Serves in an on-call capacity for emergency and disaster response when the Emergency Management Coordinator is out of the area. As required, conducts situational assessment to determine the appropriate action when an incident has occurred and activates the emergency operations plan. Staffs the emergency operations center when necessary and makes the required notifications to the State of Michigan’s liaisons.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree with some coursework in emergency management or planning, public safety, disaster response or a related field
  • Two years of related experience
  • Valid Michigan driver’s License
  • Coursework completed in NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency management
  • Ability to instruct and coordinate with others regarding emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery planning concepts
  • Ability to work with various governmental and public entities and citizens
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public in situations of a difficult and sometimes volatile nature
  • Ability to interact with other individuals during emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Ability to follow applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
