About The Position

This position is responsible for defending civil actions and supervising a staff of attorneys. The Deputy Division Chief develops case strategies, provides direction to a group of attorneys, manages outside counsel, and establishes operating policies. This role also involves providing management coaching and guidance, building relationships within the Department of Law and with City of Atlanta departments, and developing and managing the organizational budget. The Deputy Division Chief plans for the long-term talent needs of the Litigation Division and identifies, coaches, and mentors employees. Exceptional legal writing skills are required, as is the ability to deliver presentations to various internal audiences regarding cases, litigation trends, and to make recommendations on case strategy and other complex litigation matters. Additionally, the Deputy Division Chief establishes organizational strategy and policy within required legislative or executive limitations and modifies the organization of the Litigation Division to achieve objectives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment
  • Fifteen (15) plus years of litigation experience
  • Progressive responsibility managing people and workflow
  • Exceptional legal writing skills
