About The Position

Interact with and assist public and court personnel at the counter; prepare new civil and criminal cases; certify documents; docket pleadings on the computer; open and process mail; file stamp and conform documents; answer phone; process E-Filing submissions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Computer data entry experience, and customer service experience required.
  • Must have knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and modern office equipment including computer software, and filing systems.
  • Must be able to type or keyboard data entry at a rate of 45 net words per minute.
  • Must have knowledge and skills to perform basic math principles.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks to be performed.
  • Must be able to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Must be able to respond appropriately and professionally to requests and inquiries from the general public and courthouse personnel.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to apply laws, rules, regulations, and procedures applicable to the job duties assigned.
  • Must be able to read and understand manuals, instructions, and documents.
  • Must be able to analyze various situations and determine the best solution within the authority delegated.

Responsibilities

  • Courteously inform and direct the public with general information about the courthouse.
  • Provide agency forms as required by statute.
  • Data entry of documents as received by E-Filing or as received in the office by pro se parties.
  • Process new civil and criminal cases, including file marking original petitions, assigning court and judge, calculating and receipting filing fees, and entering cases into the computer.
  • Open, redirect, and process mail.
  • Open incoming transfer cases.
  • Perform filing functions for motions and orders.
  • File-mark all documents presented at the counter and from the Administrative Office.
  • Detect frivolous or fraudulent lawsuits.
  • Open quasi-criminal, civil, adoption, and juvenile cases.
  • Deliver forms to the bookkeepers.
  • Print civil daily reports.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer at all times.
  • Immediately direct judicial bypass cases to a supervisor.
  • Process credit card transactions.
  • Process passport applications.
  • Answer phone calls and prepare correspondence related to court activity.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
