About The Position

The Deputy Director assists the Financial Services Department Director in providing leadership and oversight of the County's financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, treasury management, debt administration, procurement, grants, and risk management. This position helps ensure fiscal stewardship, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and the County's continued strong financial standing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field
  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment, including two years at the Division Director level
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the activities of multiple Financial Services divisions to ensure efficient operations, exceptional customer service, and achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Provides oversight of the County's financial management systems, internal controls, and processes to safeguard public funds and maintain data integrity.
  • Oversees the preparation and review of financial statements, regulatory filings, audit schedules, budget reports, and other complex financial analyses.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to management and professional staff, including assigning work, evaluating performance, developing employees, and making personnel recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and County policies.
  • Analyzes complex financial and operational data to identify trends, evaluate fiscal impacts, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors financial policies, procedures, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Collaborates with County leadership, elected officials, external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies on financial and operational matters.
  • Leads initiatives that promote fiscal stewardship, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and effective service delivery across the organization.
  • Reporting to County Administration leadership, departments, and community partners, as needed.
  • Periodic presentation of divisional updates
