About The Position

This is an exempt "Administrative/Management" position. The incumbent employee is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Public Works Department. The divisions within the department include street maintenance, traffic control, facility maintenance, lake operations, water production, wastewater collection and treatment, and line maintenance. "Job descriptions may be modified based on City needs and employees may be required to perform functions beyond those described below and employees are "at will employees" in that either party may terminate the employment relationship.

Requirements

  • Must obtain ODEQ "B" License for water and wastewater operations within 1 year and retain licensing throughout employment.
  • Ability to read and understand complicated professional literature and directives or regulations.
  • Proficient oral and written communication.
  • Minimum 5 years of public works experience; previous supervisory and administrative experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.

  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures; water and wastewater utility operations; State and Federal regulations regarding water and wastewater treatment, street, and traffic operations.
  • Ability to perform in an administrative capacity and to effectively communicate with others.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Public Works Director in the planning, organizing, coordination of projects and personnel in the Public Works Department.
  • Attends City Commission as well as additional meetings, as needed, in the absence of the Public Works Director, may serve as an advisor on issues related to Public Works and public utilities.
  • Implements and prioritizes various projects for the department.
  • Works directly with Public Works Director to implement improvement and maintenance projects for water, wastewater, streets, traffic control, parking, and lakes.
  • Assists Public Works Director in budget preparation and control for the department.
  • Keeps record of department activities and makes reports on a timely basis.
  • Prepares specifications for supplies and equipment and assists with purchasing for the department.
  • Directs safety and training procedures, as needed, for the department.
  • Meets with residents and customers regarding requests for service and/or complaints.
  • Relays information to the Public Works Director regarding construction, repair work, or emergency situations within the scope of the department.
  • Reports to Public Works Director and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Subject to after-hours call situations and emergencies.
