About The Position

The Massachusetts Port Authority is seeking a Deputy Director Aviation Operations to lead and manage airport operations. This role involves overseeing a diverse workforce, ensuring safety and compliance with FAA regulations, directing emergency response efforts, and collaborating with various stakeholders to optimize operations and enhance customer service. The position is based at Boston Logan International Airport, a key gateway to New England, and plays a crucial role in the region's economic vitality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation science, business administration requires or equivalent professional experience in major international airport environment required.
  • 10 years’ aviation operations experience in International Origin and Destination Airport required.
  • Experience with construction, snow removal, 139 inspections and demonstrated supervisory functions required.
  • Knowledge of FAA rules, regulations, and operational procedures including ARFF techniques, FAR Part 139 compliance and TSA Parts 1540 and 1542 requirements.
  • Knowledge of airfield operations and maintenance practices, including experience with snow removal, rubber removal, and pavement repair.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops a diverse workforce, overseeing staffing, scheduling, performance management, and labor relations while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement in a complex, unionized environment.
  • Ensures safe, secure, and fully compliant airport operations by upholding FAA Part 139 standards, including airfield inspections, certification readiness, and coordination with FAA and internal stakeholders to promptly address deficiencies and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Directs and coordinates critical airfield operations and emergency response efforts, including incident command, disaster preparedness, snow operations, construction coordination, and real-time operational decision-making to maintain safety and continuity.
  • Partners with internal departments, external agencies, and industry organizations to advance safety management systems, optimize airfield and gate operations, support strategic initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in operational performance and customer service.
