About The Position

This is a pro-bono volunteer position. JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls. The Deputy Department Head will assist the Department Head in leading initiatives with NJ Universities and Colleges to recruit volunteer instructors.

Requirements

• Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
• Strong leadership/team building skills
• Resourceful, can-do attitude
• Experience with Universities and College campuses
• Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others
• Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)

Nice To Haves

• Outreach experience preferred
• flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week

Responsibilities

• Support and collaborate with teams in Business Development, Student Groups, and Individuals.
• Participate in hiring, budgeting, and marketing activities to ensure smooth college engagement operations.
• Help streamline college engagement processes and improve the effectiveness of volunteer recruitment.
• Represent COLE in leadership meetings and contribute to budgeting and planning activities.
• Act as a point of contact in the absence of the Department Head, ensuring continuity in departmental operations.
• Foster positive relationships with college partners and stakeholders to strengthen JerseySTEM's presence in educational institutions.

Benefits

• All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.
• Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
