About The Position

The purpose of this class is to perform criminal warrant and civil process service, court bailiff, court security, and patrol duties, as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class, as necessary.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Honorable discharge if the applicant has served in the armed forces of the United States.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Pass a physical examination.
  • Have adequate vision and hearing to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Pass any required entry-level written examination.
  • No trace of illegal drug usage.
  • Have never been convicted of a crime greater than a Class B misdemeanor.
  • Pass a psychological evaluation.
  • Applicants must participate in one or more interviews, which may include individual and/or interview board interviews.
  • Applicants must complete all phases of required testing.
  • Applicants must be willing to accept any assignment or shift.
  • Successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
  • This position requires at a minimum a Peace Officer Intermediate Proficiency Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Responsibilities

  • Serves civil process papers, to include citations, summons, subpoenas, writs, forcible detainers, restraining and protective orders, and other types of civil process as defined by Texas Law.
  • Serves misdemeanor and felony warrants; makes arrests of individuals or provides backup to other agencies in making arrests.
  • Reviews civil papers and warrants for proper and complete information.
  • Serves as bailiff during court sessions; introduces judge, provides court security, and takes control and custody of prisoners.
  • Serves as school crossing guard.
  • Directs traffic for regular and special assignments.
  • Enforces traffic laws.
  • Executes arrests as authorized by Texas Law.
  • Transfers prisoners to and from county jail.
  • Responds to calls for service from this agency and other surrounding agencies.
  • Provides back-up on calls for service for deputies and officers in this agency and other agencies.
  • Escorts Tax Office personnel with deposits to local banks as assigned.
  • Aids citizens with disabled vehicles and various other requests.
  • Patrols assigned areas to detect and deter crime.
  • Assists other law enforcement agency personnel as needed.
  • Performs any related work as assigned.
