About The Position

Protects the Courthouse, officials, employees, and patrons; enforces laws; and performs emergency response functions in county buildings. This role involves conducting searches, foot patrols, recommending security improvements, operating security screening equipment, arresting violators, responding to emergencies, investigating crimes, assisting other law enforcement officials, providing court security, testifying in court, monitoring surveillance cameras, maintaining TCOLE hours, and performing special assignments. The position requires regular and timely attendance, enforcement of laws, and the ability to perform essential job functions.

Requirements

  • Basic Peace Officer with experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Basic Peace Officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Knowledge of Penal Code; investigation; x-ray screening and metal detection; security protocols and operations.
  • Safely operate vehicles, firearms, and specialized security equipment.
  • Physically restrain individuals.
  • Read and write reports, letters, and memos.
  • Operate a computer.
  • Apply criminal investigative techniques.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, the elected officials', Office heads, other Official employees, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain appropriate necessary certifications.
  • Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts searches of outdoor areas, buildings, persons for potential weapons and contraband prior to entering the building.
  • Foot patrols the Justice of the Peace Courthouse with emphasis on security and assisting the occupants.
  • Recommend security improvements to all four Elected Constables.
  • Operation of the x-ray, walk-through and the hand-wand security screening at the main entrance.
  • Arrests, violators, complete paperwork, and necessary reports associated with arrests and offenses.
  • Responds to county building emergency alarms, calls, and complaints.
  • Deputy on call rotation for one week's intervals.
  • Investigates crimes against persons/ property that occur on Justice of the Peace grounds.
  • Assists federal, state, local law enforcement officials with emergencies, or response in the buildings.
  • Provide extra security or bailiff in the courts when needed.
  • Testifies in court as required
  • Monitor the building surveillance cameras for criminal activity and disturbances.
  • Maintain mandatory TCOLE hours and training.
  • Perform special assignments when required.
  • Assists other divisions, sections, courts, or personnel as needed or directed.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required
  • Enforces the constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of Texas
  • Must possess the physical and/or mental abilities required to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Shall abide by all Midland County Polices and City, County Ordinances, State and Federal Laws.
  • Performs any assignment issued by chain of command and/or Constable
