About The Position

Responsible for the accurate registration and titling of motor vehicles and boats, for recording transfers of ownership on new and used vehicles, for the collection of registration fees, title fees, special plate fees, and sales taxes. Involves daily, face to face interaction with the public coupled with extensive knowledge of motor vehicle law, regulations, guidelines, and procedures. We are in the business of customer service. We work with and for many diverse people. You must be adaptable and always use diplomacy. Will sometimes work with a hostile public; do not make it personal but about the process of serving the public with empathy and sympathy. Will occasionally be subjected to unpleasant odors which can be unkind to your senses and affect you adversely, such as body odors, strong perfumes, etc. You must meet and greet the public with friendliness that includes great listening and verbal skills.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Typing 45 to 55 WPM with high degree of accuracy; computer keyboard skills equivalent to typing skills, or at least 45 WPM; 10-key by touch; ability to read and comprehend office policies and procedures for implementation of the Texas Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicle Titles and Registration, as well as County policies which provide the maximum benefit to the customer.
  • In daily face-to-face interaction with the public, must have the ability to maintain consistent composure and to speak clearly, calmly, and knowledgeably to fellow employees and customers who may be rude, confused, or frightened.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with fellow employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years general clerical experience preferred, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Registration and titling of motor vehicles and boats.
  • Issuance of disabled plates and placards.
  • Administering transfers of ownership on new and used vehicles and boats.
  • Collection of registration fees, title fees, special plate fees, and sales tax.
  • Determining that registrant is in compliance with Texas Motor Vehicle Law.
  • Analyze documentation and determine appropriate method and/or procedure to employ to complete registration and/or title transaction.
  • Maintain current knowledge of motor vehicle and boat laws.
  • Answer telephones to assist the public and all agencies, including transferring calls to appropriate departments.
  • Balance cash drawer daily
  • Check frequently for incoming faxes and reply in a timely manner.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required
