About The Position

The Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney is one of the nation's largest municipal law offices, providing a wide range of legal services to the City of Los Angeles. The Airports Division serves as General Counsel to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), which governs Los Angeles International and Van Nuys General Aviation Airports. This division, comprising twenty attorneys and eleven support staff, handles diverse litigation and transactional matters, including contract and lease disputes, environmental issues, employment law, land use, and federal regulatory matters. Attorneys also draft and negotiate various agreements such as contracts, leases, licenses, permits, construction contracts, and concession agreements.

Requirements

• A valid license to practice law in all of the courts within the State of California.
• At least three years of relevant advisory and transactional experience, including negotiating, drafting, and advising clients in a municipal/airport/business law environment.
• Excellent writing and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with public officials, non-attorney department employees, and members of the public.
• Strong oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Litigation experience in both state and federal courts and/or administrative agencies.
• Experience with real estate law is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Providing legal advice to various levels of LAWA management and the Board of Airport Commissioners encompassing all phases of a municipal/airport/business law practice.
• Advising LAWA management regarding the business structure of a project, the bidding and negotiation process, and contract administration and performance.
• Handling claims and litigation arising from agreements.
• Negotiating and drafting leases and other real property related documents.
• Advising LAWA regarding real property transactions.
