About The Position

The Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO) plays a critical leadership role in advancing the university’s digital transformation strategy. Reporting to the CIO, the Deputy CIO is responsible for designing and executing an integrated roadmap for enterprise systems, cloud infrastructure, and service-oriented IT solutions that support teaching, learning, research, and administrative excellence. This role leads the planning and delivery of a portfolio of mission-critical IT initiatives—ensuring alignment with institutional goals, IT governance standards, and long-term architectural vision. The Deputy CIO cultivates and mentors a high-performing team of IT professionals, business analysts, and developers, while also managing relationships with technology vendors, cloud service providers, and consulting partners. The Deputy CIO acts as a strategic bridge between technology and the broader university community, driving innovation, accountability, and measurable value in all technology services. Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, including leadership roles overseeing enterprise applications, systems, or digital initiatives.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IT leadership, organizational management, and the delivery of complex technology solutions in a complex or multifaceted organization.
  • Broad technical knowledge of enterprise application environments, cloud-based services, data platforms, system integration, and modern application architectures supporting administrative functions.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, faculty, staff, vendors, and external partners.
  • Proven skills in strategic planning, analysis, and execution, including the ability to evaluate technology options, manage risk, prioritize initiatives, and align resources to achieve institutional objectives.
  • Experience developing and applying enterprise technology standards, governance frameworks, and policies that support scalability, security, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging technology trends and the evolving IT landscape, with the ability to translate industry developments into practical, mission-aligned solutions for a university environment.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, execution, and communication of a comprehensive IT applications and systems roadmap aligned with the university’s academic, administrative, and strategic priorities.
  • Engage campus leadership and functional stakeholders to ensure IT initiatives address long-term institutional needs.
  • Evaluate and recommend enterprise solutions by monitoring emerging technologies, higher education IT trends, and best practices.
  • Oversee the review, selection, and adoption of cloud platforms, integration tools, and digital services that enhance university operations and student engagement.
  • Conduct strategic analysis of business processes, academic and administrative requirements, and enterprise system capabilities.
  • Develop presentations, strategic proposals, and business cases to support technology investment decisions.
  • Direct a portfolio of university-wide IT projects focused on enterprise systems, application development, integrations, and modernization.
  • Lead cross-functional implementation teams composed of internal IT professionals, business analysts, consultants, and technology vendors.
  • Ensure effective delivery, documentation, and transition into operational support (in coordination with appropriate IT units).
  • Build, lead, and mentor teams responsible for enterprise applications, data integration, solution architecture, and business enablement.
  • Promote a culture of strategic thinking, continuous learning, and cross-unit collaboration.
  • Collaborate with IT security, infrastructure, and governance leaders to ensure that enterprise systems and solutions meet standards for reliability, scalability, accessibility, and compliance.
  • Represent the IT division in academic and administrative planning processes, system-wide working groups, and external partnerships.
  • Serve as a key advisor to institutional leaders on technology strategies that advance the university mission.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the success of the institution and its evolving digital environment.
