About The Position

The Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC), Office of Client Strategy, serves as a strategic liaison between the General Services Administration’s Public Buildings Service (PBS) and client agencies. The role requires understanding each agency’s organizational objectives, operational constraints, strategic goals, and real estate requirements, and overseeing tailored solutions that align with operational and budgetary needs. PBS manages approximately 360 million rentable square feet of federal workspace, including more than 1,600 federally owned assets and almost 7,000 leased spaces. The DAC leads change and develops innovative solutions to complex programmatic challenges. The position translates strategic goals into actionable initiatives, monitors performance measures, and oversees risk assessment and accountability frameworks to ensure effective outcomes and compliance with federal laws and regulations. It applies business acumen to establish standards and benchmarks for costs, best practices, customer satisfaction, and quality, while streamlining procedures and removing barriers. The DAC administers high-level functions for national policies, guidelines, and standards; develops strategies to improve resource utilization and operational efficiency; and adapts program methods to changing customer requirements, business models, and operational needs. The role also engages with senior stakeholders—including Congressional committees, the Office of Management and Budget, other federal agencies, and industry leaders—to represent PBS, build strategic partnerships, and negotiate complex inter-agency issues. This is a Senior Executive Service (SES) position in the Public Buildings Service, Office of Client Strategy, in Washington, DC. Appointment requires a favorable security adjudication for a Top Secret clearance, and the position is subject to random drug screening. Initial SES appointees must have executive qualifications approved by the Office of Personnel Management and may be required to serve a one-year probationary period. The appointee must file a Public Financial Disclosure Report.
