About The Position

The City of Greensboro Police Department is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and service-oriented professional to serve as a Department Programs Technician (Victim Advocate). This position provides meaningful support to victims and families affected by violent crime, helping them understand their rights, connect with resources, and navigate the criminal justice process. Requirements

  • High School Diploma with 1+ years of experience in victim assistance (e.g., Victim assistance experience includes crisis intervention, advocacy, emotional support, safety planning, and connecting victims to legal and social services)
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Must demonstrate empathy while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Must manage sensitive information with discretion
  • Must obtain Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Certification from the State of North Carolina within the probationary period.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related human services field
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous employment with a Law Enforcement Agency

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating with victims and families affected by violent crimes.
  • Providing information regarding victim rights and available services.
  • Connecting victims with appropriate care, community resources, and qualified family service providers.
  • Serving as a liaison between victims and detectives regarding case follow-up.
  • Providing victims with ongoing updates regarding the progress of their cases.
  • Coordinating case information among detectives and multiple criminal justice partners.
  • Responding to victims and families with professionalism, compassion, and sensitivity.
  • Maintaining appropriate confidentiality and exercising discretion when handling sensitive information.
