About The Position

Zayo is seeking a Deployment Technician II in the Austin area who will primarily be responsible for performing duties associated with hands-on functions within the telecommunications industry. This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship. Zayo will not provide, transfer, or assume sponsorship for any employment visa or work authorization for this position now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of telecommunications/wireless construction or civil construction
  • Ability to understand basic construction processes
  • Demonstrated ability to execute tasks independently without continuous supervision
  • Strong work ethics and teamwork; can do” attitude and desire to provide excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Knowledge of small cell and fiber optic deployment methods and best practices
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of relevant experience
  • Outside Plant construction
  • Experience performing installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and networks
  • Testing and delivering high-speed telecommunications services
  • Operating a variety of telecommunications test and construction equipment
  • Previous construction labor or technician experience
  • Military or technical school training in telecommunications, electronics, and AC/DC power systems helpful

  • Associates Degree /some college preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilize construction tools and machinery such as: Shovels, Concrete Saws, Core Drills, Vacuums, Skid Steers, Forklifts, etc
  • Conduct daily inspections for site and equipment safety.
  • Execute and deconstruct daily test plans on location per the engineering blueprint
  • Assist in the development of test plans when necessary
  • Responsible for documenting on-site conditions and daily proceedings.
  • Tasked with the placement of copper and fiber cabling.
  • Coordinate aerial and underground positioning and configuration of splice enclosures.
  • Demonstrable ability to use optical testing apparatuses such as light meters and OTDR.
  • Perform Fusion Splicing of loose tube and ribbon fiber using standard fiber splicing tools (fusion splicer, etc.).
  • Responsible for conducting hardware and software updates and/or modifications to test site equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs and data reports of work completed on various assignments.
  • Assist in ensuring the upkeep of tools and equipment in a clean and operational condition, along with preserving a neat lab setting.
  • Tasked with general cleanup of the indoor and outdoor facility, including but not limited to sweeping, leaf blowing, reorganization of materials, fence repairs, etc.
  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining tool and material inventory
  • Capability to work independently for prolonged periods
  • Work at an outdoor facility exposed to RF emissions, construction materials, noise, and waste.
