Founding AI Forward Deployed Engineer
About The Position
RingCentral is seeking a Founding AI Forward Deployed Engineer to join their team. This is a builder role where you will be responsible for writing the playbook for a new Forward-Deployed Engineering function. You will spend most of your time within customer environments, designing and shipping production agentic AI systems, building integrations, and ensuring outcomes are measurable. This role carries direct accountability for key performance metrics and offers significant influence on product and engineering roadmaps. You will also support pre-sales activities and your learnings will shape the future of the FDE team. This is an opportunity to define a function within a large enterprise platform.
Requirements
- A strong engineer who writes and ships production code (Python and/or TypeScript).
- Ability to build and debug API integrations independently.
- Experience owning systems running in production.
- 4+ years in customer-facing technical work where you personally built what was deployed (e.g., forward-deployed engineering, solutions architecture with implementation ownership, or technical consulting).
- Working depth with LLMs in production, including RAG, agent orchestration, and evaluation.
- Experience debugging agent failures.
- Ability to communicate effectively across different levels, from design reviews with engineers to business cases with executives and customer conversations.
- Thrives with incomplete information, competing priorities, and autonomy.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent military/work experience.
Nice To Haves
- Voice/telephony depth: SIP, WebRTC, SBCs, or CCaaS/UCaaS platform experience.
- Experience with enterprise-scale agentic AI deployments, voice or digital.
- Industry depth in healthcare, financial services, retail, or insurance.
- Familiarity with the competitive conversational AI landscape.
Responsibilities
- Own end to end strategic customer deployments, including discovery, workflow analysis, success criteria definition, production deployment, iteration, proven ROI, and expansion.
- Build production systems such as multi-turn agent workflows, prompt design, retrieval pipelines, decision logic, fallback handling, live-agent handoff, and integrations to customer systems of record.
- Implement guardrails and compliance controls (PII, HIPAA, PCI) tailored to each environment.
- Instrument everything by deploying evaluation, monitoring, and testing frameworks to continuously measure and improve agent performance.
- Shape the platform by feeding field findings into roadmap prioritization and documenting integration patterns, platform gaps, and recurring requirements.
- Support the sales process as a senior technical resource for pre-sales activities, including live demonstrations, architectural conversations, proof-of-concept builds, and deployment scoping.
- Turn pilot results into expansion cases.
