About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director and as a member of the Infusion Department, the unit secretary performs a wide range of secretarial duties and coordinates department procedures to ensure professional and efficient operation of the department in providing quality patient care. The unit secretary performs the following duties, including but not limited to, answering clinic phones, retrieving messages and answering calls promptly, collaborating with health care team members and other departments to schedule patient infusion appointments and checking in patients for their appointments. The unit secretary must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide indirect care appropriate to patients and families served on the unit. The unit secretary is responsible for greeting and receiving visitors, responding to needs of patients and family members and taking a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit. The environment is busy and requires interaction with the health care team, patients and families in a confined space. Per Diem shifts on Saturdays for Outpatient Infusion Center at Faulkner Hospital. 7am shift, for 8-10 hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Proficient with using a computer and a range of computer applications; including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and orderliness in performing work assignments with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and creative in crafting new approaches to solve problems.
  • Diffuses potentially volatile situations in a skillful and proficient manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of providers, patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Discerning with sensitive and confidential nature of Psychiatry department; handles all matters with utmost discretion.
  • Adept time management skills; prioritizes urgency and meets fast-approaching deadlines in a sometimes challenging environment.
  • Displays professional verbal and written communication skills with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the evolving nature of the outpatient clinic.
  • Adheres to all I CARE Standards.
  • Mostly sedentary work; occasional walking and standing required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Experience in a medical setting 2-3 years preferred
  • Prior experience with Epic 1-2 years preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
