About The Position

The Department Manager - DC manages and supports assigned team members to achieve business and operational objectives in safety, accuracy, production, and inventory control in the Distribution Center (DC). This role provides work direction and timely information to both the team members and leadership to help ensure overall operational success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrates computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and WMS applications.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good problem solving and change management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts in support of business needs or special projects.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or successful completion of Michaels’ Leadership Training program.
  • Applicants in the U.S. must satisfy federal, state, and local legal requirements of the job.

  • Any other related training/education is a plus
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing and executing plans that align to meeting operational and organizational objectives.
  • Ensuring that all team members are following standard operating procedures and guidelines to ensure internal and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifying and quickly resolving production and/or communication issues which may impact operational success.
  • Implementing and executing processes that ensure accurate inventory processing and delivery to our customers.
  • Assuring that all team members are working safely and address any behaviors or conditions that may increase safety risk.
  • Proactively partnering with the Loss Prevention Team, DC and network leaders as needed to address safety or security concerns.
  • Conducting safety training and provide proper tools and PPE to ensure compliance with all relevant internal and regulatory safety and physical security guidelines and requirements.
  • Interviewing, onboarding, and training of team members.
  • Providing the tools and resources needed for individuals and the team to achieve performance objectives and business goals.
  • Responsible for the growth and development of all direct reports.
  • Building a positive culture and environment that prioritizes engagement, recognition, open communication, respect, and trust.
  • Promptly addressing performance, attendance, behavior, and conduct issues on an ongoing basis through coaching, appropriate documentation, and corrective action as needed in partnership with Human Resources and the senior leadership team.
  • Employing logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and makes effective decisions or recommendations as a result.
  • Managing time effectively, achieving a balance of “on the floor” presence and office time.
  • Participating in special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
