About The Position

MITRE Technology and Engineering’s Systems Engineering Division delivers innovative, multidisciplinary systems engineering solutions that support MITRE and its diverse sponsor base. The division is a leader across government, industry, and academia in advancing next-generation systems engineering and applying best practices to complex national security and public sector challenges. The Systems Engineering Technical Division is seeking an organizational leader to serve as the Architecture Analysis Department Manager. The Architecture Analysis Department delivers innovative, multidisciplinary solutions to sponsor challenges that are critical to national security and public sector missions. The department researches, develops, and applies advanced technologies in the following Systems Engineering areas: Model-Based System Architecting, Architecture Analysis, and Digital Engineering Transformation. Architecture Analysis enables digital transformation by linking stakeholder needs, operational concepts, and engineering data into an integrated digital thread. The department applies model-based system architecting to define and evolve system structures, interfaces, behaviors, and dependencies for complex systems. The department also delivers architecture analysis through trade studies and assessments of performance, risk, and system interactions to support sound design and investment decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 years of mission engineering related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related systems engineering education and work experience
  • Business/managerial experience and recognition, combined with broad technical expertise in Mission Engineering and SoS.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and oversee a portion of the Division’s strategic sponsor outcomes.
  • Demonstration of specific sponsor/program knowledge and technical domain expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and develop close, trusted advisor relationships with sponsors, internal stakeholders, and business-area counterparts.
  • Successful experience driving delivery of specific sponsor strategic outcomes through effective work program execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a high-performing workforce by hiring for needed skills, coaching and developing staff, and monitoring staff engagement and performance.
  • Experience advocating for department staff and technical capability areas/portfolio with customers/sponsors to establish new work within their organization.
  • Active TS clearance and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance within 6 months.
  • U.S. Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate degree in systems engineering, math, physics, or mission engineering related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Experience with defining work programs, oversight of KPI’s, and execution of strategic outcomes.
  • Experience with multi-level customer/sponsor and/or enterprise-wide engagements.
  • Demonstrated track record building strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Mentoring experience, whether formal or informal roles, across the range of staff experience levels and team sizes.

Responsibilities

  • Set strategic direction for the department’s technical capabilities and ensure the department remains positioned to meet current and emerging mission needs.
  • Advance the department’s technical capabilities and ensure the quality, rigor, and integrity of work products.
  • Provide technical domain expertise, leadership, and influence across internal and external stakeholders to help drive mission outcomes.
  • Develop trusted working relationships with MITRE stakeholders and sponsors.
  • Partner with work programs and Project Leaders to shape, grow, and staff impactful work.
  • Support the development of new opportunities and help position department capabilities for future sponsor needs.
  • Promote the department and its technical capabilities across MITRE and with sponsors.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and integrity consistent with MITRE’s values, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.
  • Represent staff needs and perspectives to Division leadership.
  • Ensure fairness and consistency in performance and compensation management across the department.
  • Manage department budget, staffing, assets, and other resources to support effective execution of department and division priorities.
  • Collaborate across divisions and centers to leverage related activities, shared resources, existing products, and lab assets.
  • Contribute directly to MITRE work programs through senior principal-level technical leadership in areas aligned to department capabilities.
