About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Department Administrator at our Rockport Works operation. The Department Administrator provides administrative support to maintenance and production operations, including technician scheduling, attendance and leave tracking, payroll time entry, overtime reporting, purchasing support, and inventory maintenance, while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to procedures and contract requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems, processes, and contract requirements
  • Self‑motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree
  • Experience with payroll processing or timekeeping systems (e.g., Dayforce or similar)
  • Experience with purchasing or procurement systems (e.g., Oracle or similar ERP platforms)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update weekly technician work schedules, ensuring accuracy and alignment with operational requirements and applicable contract provisions.
  • Maintain and track technician vacation schedules, verifying entries for completeness and flagging potential conflicts or discrepancies to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintain and track leaves of absence (e.g., FMLA, medical, contractual).
  • Prepare technician attendance documentation, reviewing time records for completeness and accuracy in accordance with established procedures.
  • Enter technician hours into the payroll system accurately and on schedule, recognizing and escalating exceptions related to overtime, leave usage, or contractual rules.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly overtime summaries and upcoming overtime forecasts for the Maintenance Manager and Operations Managers to support staffing and scheduling decisions.
  • Place general purchase requisitions; receive and reconcile orders; and maintain mass contract entries and blanket purchase orders within the system, following procurement and internal control guidelines.
  • Maintain inventories of operational consumables (e.g., copier paper, banding supplies, stencil ink, danger tape, tools, protective equipment), to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and file operations-related records and miscellaneous forms, ensuring documentation is complete, organized, and readily accessible.
  • Support maintenance and operations, payroll, and administrative processes by asking questions, validating information, and escalating issues when items fall outside standard procedures or contract guidelines.
  • Serve as the frontline administrative point of contact for hourly technicians, supporting a broad range of administrative and operational needs while following established procedures.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion when handling employee, payroll, purchasing, and operational information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental operations.
