About The Position

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Department Administrator in the Modern and Contemporary Drawings department. Reporting to the Acquavella Curator and Department Head, the Department Administrator provides support for all department activities, including acquisitions, collection management, exhibitions, and management of the Modern and Contemporary Collectors Committee. The position involves extensive interdepartmental communication with Conservation, Registration, Imaging and Rights, Administration, and Cataloging. This position also works in conjunction with the Drawings and Prints Department to schedule and oversee researchers who visit the Drawing Study Center. The Administrator will work two days per week onsite with flexibility to administer additional department events.

Requirements

  • BA in art history or related field or BFA (MA preferred)
  • 1–2 years’ experience working in a museum or gallery in a similar position
  • Prior experience/comfort handling art objects or historical materials
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary art
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to juggle concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with database programs including TMS; knowledge of Adobe Suite preferable.)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy
  • Dependability and reliability
  • Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy boxes
  • Ability to move items to and from shelves
  • Ability to climb a step ladder
  • Ability to wheel carts with collection items through the facility
  • Tolerance for moderate levels of dust and odor generated during normal collections management activities and movement of objects

Responsibilities
