About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Department of Computer Science Chair, the position serves as the Administrative Assistant to the Chair. The incumbent plans and executes a variety of complex, large-scale administrative support functions for the Department. The incumbent also serves as the primary resource person for full-time and part-time faculty, teaching associates, instructional student assistants (i.e., graders), and student assistants, providing direction and recommendations on procedures and operations, and maintaining continuity in university, college, and departmental policy. Must independently determine work priorities to ensure departmental deadlines are met and projects are completed. Typical assignments require ingenuity and independent judgment in developing solutions.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with the ability to effectively draft and present correspondence and reports.
  • Thorough knowledge of office systems and the ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages.
  • Thorough, detailed knowledge of the university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculating ratios and percentages, tracking financial data, and making simple projections.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
  • Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
  • Ability to handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance appraisals.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
  • High school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents.
  • Three years of progressively responsible administrative support experience as a Department Administrative Assistant or in comparable positions of authority.
  • Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and analyzing budgetary data.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience using website formatting programs (i.e., OmniUpdate).
  • Experience in a supervisory role.
  • Advanced PC user and proficient with business-related online systems, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite (e.g., Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar).
  • Proficiency in the use of Adobe Sign, PeopleSoft, and the applications/software available on the PeopleSoft front pages (e.g., CSU Buy, Concur).
