About The Position

The Dentist evaluates, diagnoses, prevents, and treats diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and adjacent or associated structures, within the scope of their education, training, and experience and in accordance with professional ethics and applicable law. The position provides patient care at the Tule River Indian Health Center and responds in a vehicle to medical emergencies within the community. The Dentist is expected to meet applicable Indian Health Service (IHS), HIPAA, OSHA, and dental department standards; support the department’s policies and quality initiatives; and promote patient service and ethical department operations. The role requires a four-year American college degree or equivalent, a DDS or DMD from an American dental school or acceptable foreign equivalent, and at least three consecutive years of clinical experience as a general dentist. Required credentials include a current, unrestricted California dental license and DEA license, a California driver’s license with a good driving record, and current CPR at the BCLS level or optional ACLS. Candidates must pass required background, drug and alcohol, physical, and TB checks and be eligible to work in the United States. The position is primarily based in a standard office and clinical environment at the Tule River Indian Health Center, with occasional travel for continuing education or community projects. The clinical setting presents potential exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue, infectious waste, aerosols, chemicals, biologicals, toxicants, and irradiants. The position involves frequent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and bending, occasional running, and lifting and carrying supplies. Requirements

Successful completion of a four-year American college degree (B.A., B.S.) or equivalent degree from an acceptable foreign school.
DDS or DMD degree from an American school or equivalent degree from an acceptable foreign dental school.
Three or more consecutive years of experience as a General Dentist seeing patients in a clinical setting.
Maintain continuing dental education for successful California state license renewal.
Maintain California dental and DEA licenses and CPR certification at the BCLS level.
Provide three positive character references from professional, business, or, if needed, personal sources.
Pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
Pass a pre-employment physical.
Pass a background check.
Be lawfully eligible to work in the United States.
Hold a diploma or equivalent from an accredited and accepted dental school.
Hold a current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry issued by the Dental Board of California.
Hold a current, unrestricted DEA license.
Hold a current California driver’s license and have a good driving record.
Hold current CPR certification at the BCLS level or optional ACLS certification.
Have knowledge of essential dental office operations, including planning, organizing, patient and treatment scheduling, team-position duties, laboratory communications, insurance, and Medi-Cal third-party revenue generation.
Be able to create a comfortable dental home for patients of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
Meet or exceed the standard of care outlined by dental department policies and procedures, SOPs, IHS guidelines, HIPAA, OSHA, MSDS Hazard Communication, and Dental Director directives.
Have efficient and effective computer software skills, including Microsoft Office and DENTRIX office management.
Demonstrate a strong work ethic and establish and meet personal goals and objectives ethically.
Relate positively to team members, other employees, patients, and guests.
Be able to perform the position’s physical tasks, including frequent walking and standing for up to 10 hours per day, frequent sitting for up to 8 hours per day, frequent kneeling and bending 10–15 times per day, and infrequent running for 1–2 minutes per day.
Have mobility to work in a standard office setting and walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.
Be able to use standard office equipment for writing, typing, copying, faxing, and other duties.
Be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 10 pounds repeatedly and up to 30 pounds intermittently.
Have visual acuity to read printed materials and a computer screen.
Have hearing and speech capabilities to communicate in person and by telephone.

Responsibilities

Provide quality patient care in accordance with current IHS guidelines, HIPAA, and OSHA requirements.
Follow the Policy & Procedure, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Employee Handbook.
Participate in general staff meetings, in-service sessions, and Health Center trainings.
Observe existing dental department policies and procedures and participate in updating them.
Participate in team meetings, peer review, quality assurance, quality improvement, customer satisfaction surveys, and other customer-service or department-enhancement activities.
Promote the Tule River Indian Health Center Dental department by ethical means.
Promote and improve customer service to patients, team members, and guests.
Promote third-party revenue from patients, grants, or other sources.
Travel at times for continuing education or participation in community projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Manage medical emergencies in the dental office using 911, oxygen, the medical emergency kit, and teamwork.
Assist with other emergencies as needed, including fire, flood, natural disaster, poisoning, and rescue efforts with the medical department or other agencies.
Accept temporary responsibilities assigned by the Dental Director from time to time.
