About The Position

Positions in this job family are responsible for the administration, planning, implementation and management, and improvement of a comprehensive program of preventive dentistry; and a dental care and treatment program, including diagnostic, prosthetic, surgical, endodontic, periodontal, and restorative dentistry, for persons who are in state custody or care.

Requirements

  • Licensure to practice dentistry in the state of Oklahoma
  • One (1) year of experience in general dentistry.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral hygiene.
  • Knowledge of state legislation regarding the provision of dental services.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the application of interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to develop programs within policy limits.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply improved techniques and procedures in all phases of the dental program.
  • Ability to prepare and present educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers a program of preventive dentistry and delivery of treatment to consumers.
  • Participates in the integration of the dental program with other programs of the institution.
  • Determines the oral health of the patient and the adjacent structures through the use of visual, digital, and x-ray examinations.
  • Recommends a treatment plan based on pathology and examination and completed with the necessary operative procedures to eliminate or control such pathology within agency guideline.
  • Evaluates oral pathology and makes appropriate referrals to oral surgery referral clinics.
  • Administers prophylaxis and instruction in oral hygiene.
  • Instructs and assures records, maintenance, and care of equipment and clinic sites is conducted.
  • Ensures clients’ dental needs are met prior to departing the state institution.
  • Assists with facility planning and equipment, supplies, and staffing needs.
  • Reviews and recommends contracts.
  • Trains, supervises, and leads dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and other dental employees.
  • Collaborates with other state agencies and externally to benefit consumers of dental health care.
  • Responsible for performing all functions, and activities including the diagnosis, treatment, management, and coordination of services related to patients’ oral health needs.
