About The Position

Dentists working at Open Cities may be eligible for loan repayment through the National Health Service Corp. This role involves examining, diagnosing, and treating patients, providing emergency services, and contributing to the development of dental treatment guidelines. The dentist will also be responsible for patient education, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with dental assistants and hygienists to ensure effective team-based care. Additionally, the position includes clinical supervision of Dental Therapists and participation in on-call duties and staff meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited dental school with a D.D.S., D.M.D., or equivalent degree.
  • Current licensure to practice dentistry in Minnesota.
  • Ongoing BLS certification.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and interactive personal relational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an FQHC or with underserved patients.
  • Fluency in Somali, Spanish, or Hmong.
  • Residency training.
  • Experience and expertise in endodontics or pediatric dental care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Dental Director in developing guidelines for dental treatment and priorities for dental care at OCHC.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and establishes treatment plans for patients.
  • Provides dental treatments and/or refers patients to the appropriate agency or professional individual when indicated.
  • Provides emergency services to patients as needed.
  • Performs other clinical duties as assigned by the Dental Director.
  • Performs quality assurance audits and peer reviews as assigned.
  • Provides dental education to clinic clients in individual or group settings.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records within the EMR and closes out accounts according to clinic standards.
  • Provide direction to the assigned dental assistant and work closely with the assigned dental hygienist to provide effective team-based patient care.
  • Provides clinical supervision to Dental Therapist(s).
  • Shares on-call duties for the dental department.
  • Participates in staff and clinic meetings.
